The condemned

What will happen if you put 10 condemned onto a small island giving them 30 hours time to kill each other? The surviver is set free and will get a one million dollars.

This action movie is starring WWE star Steve Austin and has a very simple story but many very brutal scenes and is nothing for weak nerves. It got bad critics because of it plot holes and the sexism but if you are looking for an action movie not claiming for a good story then you should go for it.

first mobile entry

This is the first entry I’m writing on my blackberry. Just want to try it out if this is working. I’m currently sitting in the central park (whereelse?) and it is a very lovely day so far but the forecast says rain for this evening.

Today I found out that a chickenburger (they call it mcchicken over here – but it is similar to our chickenburger) at mc costs 2.29 USD. I remember that the price was 1 EUR back in AT so this is where the current exchange rate leads us :D

First steps to get settled

Yesterday I made it to the social security office to apply for a social security number where I was surprised that I don’t had to wait in a line because nobody else was there. I just wait strait through, filled out one form, went to the counter and that was it. Now I have to wait several days until they send the social sec card to me via mail. Afterwards I’ve opened a bank account. So now I’m nearly set and I just need an apartment and then I’m ready to rock and roll ;)

Time for some more pictures

It was such a lovely day yesterday I used the afternoon to take a walk and some pictures. Enjoy!

First I was at the South Street Seaport (Pier 17):

You have a gorgeous view at the Brooklyn Bridge from there:Brooklyn Bridge from pier 17

Then I walked through the park at city hall:

And at the end I found myself in the central park again ;)

I made it!

Yesterday was the big day when I finally moved over to NYC. It was a strange feeling to leave all friends and family members behind and start to a new part of my life. Saying goodbye to my parents at the airport was the hardest part and I had all kind of thoughts while sitting in the airplane if it was the right decission or not. But now there is no way back and here I am: A dork in the big city not knowing what to do next ;) . To be serious: The weather for my arrival couldn’t have been better and after checking in at the hotel I took a long walk through the battery park and enjoyed the afternoon sun. The next steps for me will be to get a social security number – I still need to wait a couple of days to let the social security office get my data from the immigration office – and afterwards open a bank account. All that stuff that really makes fun ;)

My first assignment of the new job will be in Chicago where I should be in 2 weeks working for a couple of weeks at a client site. At the moment I don’t think it makes sense to find an apartment before this so I will postpone it for a little while.

Why fly?

Looking at Google map I think I will cancel my flight and take their advice to swim through the Atlantic ocean.

Go to http://maps.google.de/maps?f=d and enter Vienna as start address and New York as destination and read point 43 :D
