The New England Patriots are the second team after the Miami Dolphins (1972) that stayed undefeated for the whole season.

It’s time to wish you all Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! I hope you’re as lucky as I am and you’re able to enjoy these quiet days of the year with your family and friends.

Xmas Shopping

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Tonight I bought a couple of xmas presents (Apple store etc. ;) ) and also got a nice North Face jacket for myself at their store in SOHO. These guys there rock totally there. Was the friendliest shopping experience I’ve had so far and I’m also very happy with my jacket :)

The other funny thing today was that people somehow do recognize that I’m living in NYC now (I guess I’m kind of looking confident walking down the streets of Manhattan) as one guy was asking me or directions and a couple was asking me for a good restaurant around :)

Officially moved in…

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

into my room here in Manhattan and I got my bed and a futon delivered today. After I’ve ordered my stuff in here someone might also be able to sleep on that couch as it can be expanded to a full size bed :)

Yesterday night I’ve been to an American comedy club called Laugh lounge which is located just a couple of blocks away from my place and I really enjoyed it. Was funny the hear a black guy making jokes about race. And I like the fact that you’re sitting at your own table and you are able to order drinks during the show.

2 more games to go for the perfect score of the Pats!

Xmas lights

These are the xmas lights of a private residence here in Chicago. I bet the owner has the same bill for electricity as a small village in Austria ;)

Chicago downtown in Winter

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Since I’m staying in downtown Chicago over this weekend I took a short walk along the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Ave) to the parks in the center. While the main streets are crowded as everyone is shopping for Xmas the parks are empty.

It’s getting chilly here in Chicago

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

The temperature this morning here in Chicago was about 13 degrees Fahrenheit which is around -11 degrees Celsius and we are talking about the first week of December. Getting the ice off the car in the morning is definitely not fun where is the park heating in my car?

Let it snow!

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Yesterday it started snowing here in the Chicago area at noon time and it was still snowing this morning. This is how my car looked like this morning:

Lincoln town car covered with snow

Since it was very slippery to drive traffic was a nightmare and this was really reminding me on driving in winter back home in Austria but thank god the Lincoln has a decent traction control.

This was the parking lot at work this morning. Loads of snow!

Back in cold Chicago

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Coming back from San Francisco to Chicago meant going from 60 degrees F (~15 Celsius) to 20 degrees F (~ -7 Celsius). I know as Austrian I should be used to this temperatures but IT IS damn cold here and it feels even worse when you are coming back from California ;)

Good thing though is that I missed the snowstorm in Chicago this weekend :)

btw: Patriots 12-0 :)

SF day3: Dim Sum, Haight – Ashbury

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Today Manny and I went for Chinese breakfast which is called Dim Sum. It was the first time that I’ve tried Dim Sum and also the first time for me that I’ve eaten a dish out of a leaf but I must say it was really tasty. And there is always a first time ;)

After breakfast I had to see where the hippie movement has been started: The district around the crossing of Haight and Ashbury also called “The Haight”. You can still get some impressions of the scene walking through Haight street. A couple of funky-trendy shops, clubs and cafes and also drug dealers (trying to sell you stuff) and consumers (begging for change). I’m not sure if I would go there again but now I can at least say that I’ve been there ;)
