Order pizza online with your Blackberry

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

We were having some beers at a bar around the corner tonight to celebrate my new aptmt and it was actually the first time that I tried to order pizza online using my cell phone. I have to say it worked pretty well. The order went pretty smoothly and after 25 minutes we were eating fresh warm pizza with our beers :)

Another view out of the office

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I was staying late today and was watching the sun going down out of my office window here at ground zero.

Got the keys :)

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I got the keys for my new apartment today. They apparently did a good job in putting new color on the walls, wax the hardwood floors and cleanup everything. I can’t await to move in there :) The movers are arranged for Saturday to get everything from current to my new place.

La Bonne Soupe

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

If you are spending a day in central park like us today and it starts raining and you are looking for a nice place to grab a bite that is close by and you are up for really fresh French food then you have to go to La Bonne Soupe. I really recommend the “Soupa a l’Oignon” which is one of the best soups I ever had. We also had Salad (really really fresh and tasty), a Chicken and Mushroom Crepe and some nice rose wine. They also serve fondue there if you are interessted. Highly recommended!

Dark Knight

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I haven’t been in the movie theatre for a long time but after watching the trailer and reading the very good reviews of that movie I had to go and see it. Also friends were telling me that it is a really good one. It wasn’t that easy. The original plan was to go and see on Friday night after work but the first cinema we went to offered only a room without air condition which we refused as it didn’t seem to be a good idea to sit in there with 200 others and sweat like in a sauna. I still don’t understand how there can be a theater without AC in town. Anyways, we got a cab and went up from downtown to union square and tried to get tickets there. All shows sold out. So went to the next theater we knew a couple of blocks away. They weren’t even showing the batman movie. So we decided to go Saturday morning instead and having bad luck already the ticket machine printed only one ticket instead of the purchased two. Finally after we got the second ticket from the box office we were ready to see it.

To keep it short: I think my expectations were just too high. I think it was just alright. Another batman movie in which the director really tried hard to pack as much story as possible and I think it was a little bit too much. But I have to say that Heath Ledger who died accidentally on a prescription drug overdose in January did a really god job playing “The Joker”. From my point of view his role makes to movie to one that I would recommend to watch if you liked the previous one called “Batman begins”. The replacement for Katie Holmes for the character of Rachel called Maggie Gyllenhaal was a bad choice in my opinion as she didn’t do a good job as actress and even worse I think she isn’t even that pretty.

Conclusion: The movie is ok but don’t expect too much. If you are a Batman fan you won’t be dissapointed.

Moving to my new place soon

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Sorry for the recent silence. It has been a while since I wrote the last post here but I have been too busy and there wasn’t really much to write about. Life in the city is going as always which means going to work, having nice dinner in a restaurant somewhere in the city, sleep a couple of hours and go to work again. But there is one thing some of you know already and I think now is the time to announce it officially: I’m moving to a new apartment next week :) I’m ending my “college-kid time” sharing a place and get my own 1 bedroom in  SoHo. This weekend I already started packing up my stuff and I arranged some movers for next weekend that will bring my stuff over there. When everything goes smooth as planned I can already enjoy the next sunday in my new place :) The following weekend my b-day party is coming up…voigaaaaas :)

Nice dessert

Monday, July 14th, 2008

After having dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant in the city yesterday we were graving for some dessert and therefore we went to a cake place called “Black Hound” where we got some small cute cakes. We got a “Praline Cake”, one “Choclate Gianduja Cake” and a “Chocolate Strawberry Daisy Cake” and I have to say they taste delicious and you can get a small size which is absolutely the right choice if you are just a party of 2. But see yourself:

iPhone 2.0

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Yea…today’s THE day. The new iPhone is finally out and people were already lining up in front of apple or AT&T stores this morning. Since I’m not a big fan of standing in lines I will wait a couple of days until most of the rush is over and will get one too. I will keep you posted once I got one.

But not only the device is new. Apple also released their new firmware for the iPhone and iPods. And one of the coolest application in there is the client for Pandora :) That’s the thing I was really waiting for. Now you don’t really have to download music anymore. You can just listen to your favorite tunes on the free internet radio.

And there are other apps like Shazam which listens to any song (in your car, on TV or any radiostation) and tells you the artist and title of the song with the option to download the song directly from iTunes.

Apple rulez!

4th July fireworks

Monday, July 7th, 2008

As promised here are some videos of the fireworks on last Friday which happened to be the independence day. We watched them on the FDR Drive a little bit north of South Street Seaport.

Shanghainese Food

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

After watching the 4th July fireworks last night (videos to come) we had a good long sleep and used the rainy day to try some Shanghainese cuisine. We went to China Town which isn’t to far from my place ;) and had Shanghai steamed buns ( Xiaolongbao 小籠包), Shanghai double sided pan fried noodles (两面色) with seafood and Tofu with black mushrooms (冬菇豆腐). I have to say that when I first tried steamed food it was kind of a new experience to me as you are not used to this kind of stuff growing up in a non-Asian environment. But the more I try it the better I like it. Especially those steamed buns today at this tiny Shanghainese place in the middle of China town were really delicious and we finished them all :)
